Turkish citizenship is expected to be granted to a Turkish citizen who intends to live in Turkey from 2020 onwards. Candidates will be granted citizenship if they meet certain criteria established by law.
The main eligibility criterion is 10 years of continuous residence on Turkish territory or at least 5 years of continuous residence if the applicant has a valid passport. There is no need for the person to have resided in Turkey for 10 consecutive years, but must have resided in Turkey without any interruption whatsoever during the ten-year period prior to the date of application.
In order to obtain Turkish citizenship by naturalization, one must meet certain criteria such as being able to speak and write Turkish, sufficient knowledge of Turkey’s history, knowledge of the basic principles of democracy and sharing of common values with the Turkish nation and living.
Turkish citizenship will change in 2022. Turkish law will allow suffrage for refugees and those who immigrated to the Republic of Turkey between February 28, 2014 and November 3, 2015.
As of now, a person is not entitled to become a citizen if he is not of Turkish origin or if he is not married to a Turkish citizen.

The Turkish Citizenship Law was revised on April 6, 2018. Thus, foreign citizens wishing to obtain Turkish citizenship can now apply for “Eczane” or “Turkish citizenship” (or “citizenship by naturalization”) status through:
